OVERVIEW

BII Investor Network is a closed platform built for BioInnovation Institute, part of the Novo Nordisk ecosystem. It connects life science start-ups directly with a curated group of investors. Start-ups are automatically onboarded through BII Orbit, no separate account needed. Investors get their own dedicated access to explore startups, review their information, and discover opportunities within the BII ecosystem.

The platform also features a pitch calendar where BII organizes events that bring startups and investors together. Only upcoming events are visible, keeping the calendar focused and relevant.

CHALLENGES

BII had a growing network of lifecience start-ups going through their programs, and a separate group of investors interested in early-stage life science companies. But there was no structured way to connect them. Introductions happened manually, investor interest was hard to track, and start-ups had no visibility into which investors were looking at their space.

Start-ups had no standardized way to present themselves to investors information was scattered across pitch decks, emails, and documents. BII needed a platform that gave investors direct access to their start-up portfolio, while giving startups a stage to pitch, all within a closed, trusted environment.

How do you create a trusted environment where life science startups and investors can discover each other, without the noise of public marketplaces?

SOLUTIONS

We built a dedicated investor platform using Laravel, React and Inertia.js. The platform was designed to match the look and feel of BII Orbit, so that startups experience a seamless transition between both platforms as if they are working within one connected environment rather than two separate tools.

The platform is directly connected to BII Orbit, meaning start-ups flow in automatically without needing to create a new account or duplicate their information.

For start-ups

  • Each start-up has a one-pager where they present their problem, value proposition, key data, stage of company, start-up impact, and what they are looking for.

  • Automatic onboarding through BII Orbit, no separate registration needed.

  • Visibility to a curated group of 142 investors within the ecosystem.

  • The ability to sign up for pitch events and connect with interested investors.

  • Start-ups can bookmark investors they are interested in.

For investors

  • A start-up discovery section where investors can browse the full BII startup portfolio.

  • Access to each start-up's one-pager with structured, standardized information.

  • Connection requests allowing investors to express interest in a start-up with one click.

  • Bookmarking functionality to save and track interesting startups.

  • A pitch calendar managed by BII, showing only upcoming events.

  • Investors can respond to pitch events and indicate their interest.

For BII

  • Full visibility into which start-ups and investors are interested in each other through bookmarks and connection requests.

  • A clear overview of engagement across the ecosystem, enabling smarter matchmaking and introductions.

The platform operates as a closed, invite-only environment, ensuring quality connections between verified start-ups and vetted investors.
